MODERN SYSTEM OF POSTGRADUATE PEDIATRIC EDUCATION AND CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN’S DOCTORS

The deterioration of the health of the child population against the backdrop of the ongoing war and the post-pandemic stage requires changes in the structure, forms and volumes of postgraduate education and continuous professional development of pediatric doctors in order to ensure proper medical care for the child population in the current difficult conditions. The existing system of postgraduate pediatric education and continuous professional development of pediatric doctors in Ukraine does not fully meet the modern challenges of today and European requirements.The system of primary specialization of pediatric doctors – internship – needs to be improved first of all. Its duration should be increased to 4-5 years in accordance with the requirements of the EU doctoral directive. Taking into account the requirements of the time, the increase in infant mortality in the country against the backdrop of the war and the ongoing pandemic, the risks of new outbreaks of infectious diseases, it is advisable to add such specialties as «Neonatology», «Children’s Infectious Diseases» and «Children’s Anesthesiology» to the list of 24 existing internship specialties It is necessary to introduce a two-year medical residency in the most popular pediatric specialties in the current conditions, with its completion on the basis of leading university clinics and scientific institutions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Considering the social situation of pediatric doctors in municipal and state-owned healthcare institutions, their participation in continuous professional development activities should be compensated at the expense of stakeholders.
