FORMATION OF STUDENTS’ SCIENTIFIC IDENTITY IN THE CONTEXT OF A COMPETENCY-ORIENTED APPROACH

Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of research competencies as predictors of students’ scientific identity. The relevance of the problem is due to modern challenges in the field of healthcare, the effective overcoming of which requires close integration of scientific achievements with medical practice. Therefore, during the period of education, it is important for students to acquire skills for the implementation of research activity, to realize the benefits of their own scientific activity in the chosen specialty. The aim of the work was to highlight the role of a competency-based approach in the processes of ensuring the appropriate level of scientific awareness of students, the formation of scientific (research) competencies and scientific identity. The work used methods of analysis and synthesis of open information in the databases PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science. As a result of the work, it was determined that the competency-based approach has a common goal with the 4C/ID pedagogical model, which acts as a technological tool for implementing the competency paradigm. It is shown that the mechanisms of the competency-oriented approach form the motivational-value, cognitive, activity and reflective-evaluative components of scientific competence. In particular, the student’s cognitive curiosity, research thinking, ability to scientific search and critical evaluation of information are developed. Also, an attitude towards science is formed not as a complication of learning, but as an inseparable component of the professional development and activities of a healthcare specialist. The important role of the competency-oriented approach in the development of a student-scientist from motivation and understanding of the essence of science to practical confidence and stable research skills is substantiated. It is concluded that the formation of a student’s scientific identity is implemented through a competency-oriented approach, which ensures the development of scientific abilities, the ability to transform one’s own scientific interests into professional activities, as well as self-actualization of the personality through the integration of science into practice.
