In the 2025/2026 academic year, a new specialty G21 «Biotechnology and Bioengineering» was accredited at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Bogomolets National Medical University, and the educational program «Industrial and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology» was developed. The authors analyze the diagnostic toolkit for assessing the effectiveness of implementing a competence-based approach in teaching the educational component «Methodology of Scientific Research» to future master’s students majoring in G21 «Biotechnology and Bioengineering». The starting point for constructing the diagnostic toolkit was the understanding that the main goal and outcome of implementing a competence- based approach in teaching the course «Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research» is the formation of professional competence of future master’s students during their training. The University teaching staff identified the following key components of students’ professional competence: motivational and value-based (reflecting values, needs, and motives of professional activity), cognitive (reflecting methodological, theoretical, and practice-oriented knowledge), procedural and activity-based (reflecting the set of students’ skills), information and communication (reflecting the ability to apply unified information and communication technologies), communicative (reflecting collaboration with colleagues), and professional-reflexive (reflecting the ability to comprehend and evaluate the results of one’s actions). The corresponding criteria, indicators, and levels of formation of these components were determined as measures of the effectiveness of implementing the competence-based approach in teaching the course «Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research». The levels of professional competence formation were assessed using a traditional scale (elementary, basic, sufficient, advanced). In characterizing the levels of formation of professional competence components of future master’s students in biotechnology and bioengineering, the projected dynamics of their development during the study of the course «Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research» at the institutional level were taken into account.
