ASPECTS OF THE FORMATION OF COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN DENTAL STUDENTS AND ITS CORRECTION IN INTERNS

Abstract

The article examines communicative competence as one of the key components of a dentist’s professional training. It emphasizes that effective communication in modern medical practice is not only an essential professional skill, but also a critical factor in ensuring the quality of the treatment process, strengthening trust between doctor and patient, reducing anxiety, and preventing conflicts. The paper analyzes the main approaches to studying the phenomenon of communicative competence in dental education. Four main areas of research are identified: theoretical and methodological foundations, emotional and psychological factors, practical formation in students, and the correction of relevant skills in dental interns.Particular attention is given to analyzing core communicative actions, such as establishing initial contact, collecting medical history using active listening, explaining the diagnosis and treatment plan in plain language, interacting with anxious or aggressive patients, and involving the patient in decision-making. The article provides practical examples of how communicative competence manifests in dentist–patient interaction. It is argued that each of these components requires systematic pedagogical support, training methodologies, modeling of professional situations, reflection, and mentoring. The article provides practical recommendations for developing these skills in dental students and interns during clinical training. It highlights the importance of developing emotional intelligence, self-regulation, and empathy as the foundation of effective professional interaction. The article asserts that communicative competence should be an integrated part of the educational process at all stages – from undergraduate training to internship. A comprehensive approach to developing this competence will contribute to raising the level of professional culture among future dentists and ensuring high standards of clinical communication.
