DESIGNING THE CONTENT OF ELECTIVE DISCIPLINES FOCUSED ON THE TRAINING OF SPECIALISTS IN THE FIELD OF ORTHODONTICS, IN PARTICULAR IN THE FIELD OF GNATHOLOGY

The paper substantiates the content of elective disciplines aimed at the training of competitive specialists in orthodontics, in particular in the field of gnathology. The high prevalence of temporomandibular joint pathology among dental diseases and the negative impact on the quality of life prompts increased attention to this problem in the training of higher dental education students: the development of comprehensive, systematic knowledge of the biomechanics of the maxillofacial apparatus, understanding the essence of multifunctional relationships between the structural elements and tissues of the dentition in normal and in pathology, their role and possibilities of application in reconstructive dentistry, diagnostics and prevention of dental diseases.The efforts of the Departments of Orthodontics and Propaedeutics of Prosthetic Dentistry and Medical and Biological Physics and Informatics of the Bogomolets National Medical University initiated the creation of elective courses in this area for students of specialty 221 “Dentistry”.Based on the analysis of the work programs, the authors identified the disciplines and topics that have the most significant impact on understanding the essence of the functional relationships of tissues and organs of the dentoalveolar system in normal and pathological conditions and form the basis of knowledge in orthodontics and gnathology. The graph method was used to design the content of selected disciplines. A graph of the algorithmic sequence of studying topics from different disciplines that form the basic knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the quality assimilation of educational material in gnathology was constructed.Based on the analysis of the work programs, the authors identified the disciplines and topics that have the most significant impact on understanding the essence of the functional relationships of tissues and organs of the dentoalveolar system in normal and pathological conditions and form the basis of knowledge in orthodontics and gnathology. The graph method was used to design the content of selected disciplines. A graph of the algorithmic sequence of studying topics from different disciplines that form the basic knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the quality assimilation of educational material in gnathology was constructed.The graph method used to build intersubject connections allowed us to design the content structure, determine the role and place of each of the topics of selective educational disciplines (“Fundamentals of gnathology in orthodontics” and “Biomechanics of the dento-maxillary apparatus. Physical foundations of gnathology”), ensuring the formation of professional practically-oriented competencies in orthodontics and gnathology. The effectiveness of this approach was confirmed by the results of a questionnaire survey.
