EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING THE ELECTIVE DISCIPLINE “PEDIATRIC ENDODONTICS” FOR STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

The article is devoted to the description of the experience of developing and implementing the elective discipline “Pediatric Endodontics” for students of the Faculty of Dentistry of the second (master’s) level of higher education in the specialty 221 Dentistry. Active study of elective components contributes to increasing the effectiveness of training future dentists by deepening specialized knowledge and skills that correspond to modern diagnostic and treatment protocols. The purpose of the elective discipline “Pediatric Endodontics” is to deepen theoretical knowledge and master practical skills in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of endodontic pathology of primary and permanent immature teeth. The stages of creating an educational program, its structure and content are described. A list of topics and a description of the content of each lesson are provided, as well as the compliance of the content with the guidelines of international and national associations. The experience of studying the section dedicated to endodontic treatment in children in different countries was analyzed, and the interest of students in in-depth study of certain professional issues was determined, namely: “dental trauma”, “local anesthesia in endodontic treatment”, “vital pulp therapy”, “step-by-step techniques of endodontic treatment”, “postendodontic restoration of primary and permanent teeth”. The active involvement of the “case study” during the preparation and conduct of classes was proposed. The main list of practical skills for mastering is given.
