Abstract

Modern pharmacists are increasingly involved in working in multidisciplinary teams, where their contribution to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases becomes more significant. Chemical metrology, as a science of measurement, plays an important role in pharmaceutical practice, as it allows to ensure the accuracy and reliability of chemical analyzes necessary for the development, production and quality control of medicinal products. Knowledge of chemical metrology is a valuable factor in the formation of a competent worker in the pharmaceutical industry, capable of ensuring high quality and safety of pharmaceutical products and contributing to innovations in the industry. The article highlights the structure and content of the elective course “Fundamentals of Chemical Metrology” for second year full-time students of the pharmaceutical faculty at Bogomolets National Medical University. The necessity of teaching this discipline to students in specialty 226 “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy” is substantiated. The course is aimed at forming an understanding of the metrological justification of the quality control methods of medicinal products and their metrological support, at the preparation of students to perform professional duties in accordance with the requirements of national and/or international standards. Competences and expected learning outcomes are determined. The acquired practical skills and abilities consist in independent statistical processing of the results of a chemical (pharmaceutical) experiment, interpretation and evaluation of the results of the analysis of medicinal products in accordance with the requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine. The topics of lectures and practical classes, their purpose and main tasks are specified. Peculiarities of conducting practical classes are analyzed. Case technologies are defined as an effective educational method for achieving educational goals. Using case technologies during lectures and practical classes helps to show students a strong connection between metrology and pharmacy, to discover the practical significance of the acquired knowledge and skills, which contributed to a deeper understanding of the material and increasing activation of cognitive activity.
