EXPERIENCE OF THE ORGANIZATION OF THE SCIENTIFIC EDUCATION EVENTS FOR STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF PHARMACY IN THE PREPARATION OF QUALIFICATION WORKS IN THE FIELD OF «CLINICAL PHARMACY»

Abstract

Relevance. Preparation and defense of a master's qualification thesis by a student of the Faculty of Pharmacy is a mandatory component of the certification for obtaining the educational specialization «Master of Pharmacy». The work requires knowledge and skills in the analysis of literary sources, processing of Internet databases, conducting analytical work, mastering statistical packages, rules for preparing a printed version of the work and presentation materials. If in many European countries, a student is given 1.5 years to write and defend a master's thesis, then in Ukraine the completion of this work is carried out outside the classroom. Objective. Development of an algorithm for increasing the scientific competence of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the direction «Clinical Pharmacy». Methods. We used an informational and analytical method of research and presented the authors' own experience regarding the undergraduate scientific education of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. Results. To solve this problem, the department of clinical pharmacology and clinical pharmacy developed measures for future masters to improve their scientific competence. These events were dedicated to: 1) bibliographic search rules, including international databases (Pubmed, DrugBank Online, Cochrane.org, etc.); 2) the basics of international patent search using databases – Ukrpatent.org, Medicinespatentpool.org, Uspto.gov, Wipo.int; 3) the rules of writing a literature review with the creation of literary reworked citations with endnotes according to Vancouver standards; 4) basics of antiplagiarism examination, including StrikePlagiarism.com; 5) rules for working with extracts from medical histories and outpatient charts, including issues of protection of patients' personal information; 6) conducting statistical processing of the received materials, in particular, non-parametric studies in statistical packages STATISTICA and SPSS; 7) rules for formulating conclusions, scientific novelty and practical significance of research; 8) the basics of creating a presentation, video materials, preparing theses for publication and defending a master's thesis. Conclusions. The systematic organization of events for the scientific education of students of the pharmaceutical faculty improves the quality of preparation of qualifying master's theses. The allocation of a separate course and the addition of hours to the working program of scientific education of students will allow to train specialists of the highest level in a timely manner and to form the skills of scientific research, including among English-speaking university students.
