THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ELECTIVE COURSE «ENGLISH LANGUAGE OF DENTAL DIRECTION» IN THE FORMATION OF MEDICAL STUDENTS' LANGUAGE COMPETENCE

Abstract

The article highlights the results of the study of the problem of the importance of the elective discipline «English language of dental direction» in the formation of foreign language competence of medical students. The essence of competence is determined as a dynamic combination of cognitive, metacognitive skills, knowledge, understanding, interpersonal, intellectual, practical skills, ethical values, which are the result of the educational process. The foreign language competence of future dentists is presented as the ability to effectively use knowledge of foreign languages in the process of professional training, to acquire professional knowledge and skills, to develop academic and professional mobility, to interact with others in a professional international environment. Features of the professional activity of dentists are outlined: the use of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment in dentistry, the provision of urgent care for various problems, cooperation with colleagues from other medical specialties, raising the professional level, compliance with the principles of medical ethics. Attention is focused on the research of scientists on the formation of foreign language competence of future specialists, in particular future dentists. The peculiarities of the formation of foreign language competence of future dentists under the educational and scientific program «Dentistry» were considered. The description of the elective discipline «English language of the dental direction» aimed at improving foreign language competence, mastering practical skills in various types of speech activity, using the latest professional information from foreign sources, developing the ability to translate and understand general scientific, professional texts from a foreign language has been carried out. The importance of learning a foreign language in the formation of foreign language competence of future dentists has been proven.
