Abstract

Modern training of nurses requires the implementation of educational technologies that ensure not only the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, but also the formation of professional competencies necessary for safe practical activities. Training on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HАI) is of particular importance, since it is nurses who play a key role in implementing infection control measures, adhering to standard operating procedures, epidemiological surveillance and ensuring patient safety. The aim of the work is to substantiate the effectiveness of innovative teaching methods in the formation of professional competencies of future nurses and to present an algorithm for conducting a practical lesson on the topic «Prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections in the intensive care unit» based on the MECL model (Modular – Experiential – Collaborative – Lifelong Learning). The article analyzes modern approaches to professional training of medical professionals, the role of case-based, problem-based and simulation training, as well as the principles of evidence-based medicine in the formation of clinical thinking. The structure of a practical lesson is proposed, which includes modular study of theoretical material, analysis of a clinical case, simulation practice of practical skills, teamwork with the distribution of professional roles, group reflection and independent analysis of current regulatory documents of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, recommendations of the World Health Organization and international guidelines on infection control. The practical component of the lesson involves practicing hand hygiene algorithms, the use of personal protective equipment, aseptic installation and care of a urinary catheter, disinfection measures and handling of medical waste. It has been established that the integration of modular, practically oriented, team and continuous training contributes to the development of clinical thinking, the formation of skills in assessing epidemiological risks, making informed professional decisions, effective interaction in a multidisciplinary team and responsible compliance with infection control requirements. The use of the MECL model ensures the holistic formation of professional competence of a nurse and is a promising direction for improving the educational process in institutions of professional pre-higher and higher medical education
